New cancer diagnosis technology

Researchers have developed a method to detect cancer using carbon nanotubes with a large number of biomarkers that indicate the onset of cancer.

MicroRNA is a nucleic acid like DNA that is present in plants and animals. Among a large number of known factors, one group in the human body increases strongly during cancer. They are found in blood, urine and saliva and their identification is one of the main priorities in medical research.

Currently, their diagnosis, for example, through blood tests, requires a visit to the clinic. This research team is trying to produce a home device that can permanently identify these factors and have an automatic warning. They intend to use carbon nanotubes like thin needles with dimensions about one hundred thousandth of a human hair. They have designed nanobiosensors that can be easily implanted under human skin. This process is more non-invasive compared to the old samplings.

Early detection of cancer using carbon nanotubes

So far, they have managed to receive these signals from a mouse. This is definitely a very important step in this field. The next step is to make a kind of wearable device like a watch that can use this technology.
